Trash disposal and waste management is a very strong issue for the world. People had already recognized the importance of recycling long ago. The effort to reduce waste generation has increased exponentially in the recent years. However, our advancement in technology has only created an even larger source of waste generation.

 

Tech Disposal

Based on Greenpeace’s prediction, there are 6 billion smartphone users in the world. Most of them are estimated replace their phones in two years, on average. Hence, the smartphone, desktops, laptops, and other technological devices will end up in the trash. Therefore, proper disposal and recycling of these devices should be implemented in the recycling industry.

 

Portal for Disposal

Amazon:

Amazon had provided a portal and a guideline for people to trade-in their old devices for gift cards. The company supports “the responsible disposal and recycling of electronics products”. Thus, they have over 30,000 collection sites for rechargeable batteries.

 

Apple:
In addition, Apple has a similar recycling effort as well. They claimed that they can recycle the devices into something usable product. This action applies to all models and devices. With this action, Apple plans to materialise the idea of “closed-loop supply chain”. It means Apple wish to achieve a state that all products are eco-friendly materials.

 

Google:
Google’s recycling program involves trade-in for other products in Google store. Their recycling program involves mail-in services and collection sites.
As users, it is our responsibility to use the provided portals to reduce electronic waste. With so many companies providing recycling portals, why not?
